The blood vessels are structured throughout the body and play important roles such as transport of nutrient and oxygen. The top causes of death in Japan are cancer, heart disease and cerebrovascular disease, which means blood vessels are closely involved in diseases.
Antiangiogenic therapy is one of the cancer therapies. We have focused on tumor endothelial cells which consist of blood vessels in tumors. It has been reported that tumor endothelial cells are different from normal counterparts in several aspects.
In this study, we are trying to clarify the characteristics of tumor endothelial cells and specific molecules, and to elucidate the mechanisms of abnormalities of tumor endothelial cells, which will beneficial to develop novel diagnostics and therapeutic agents.
